Frequently Asked Questions
Which Schema Therapy course should I book first?
If you are a mental health professional looking for a practical foundation in Schema Therapy, Workshop 1: The Model, Method & Techniques is the natural starting point. The full course covers the Schema Model and Mode Model over 16 hours across four mornings, with teaching, demonstrations and coached experiential practice. It is designed to help clinicians begin applying core Schema Therapy concepts in their clinical work. If you are unsure whether to book the full workshop or a specific part, please contact us before purchasing and we will help you choose the most suitable option.
Can I attend Schema Therapy training without following the ISST certification route?
Yes. Schema Therapy Wales offers workshops both for professionals working towards ISST certification and for those who simply want high-quality stand-alone professional development. You do not have to commit to a certification route in order to book a course. If certification is a future possibility, please review the relevant application criteria before you enrol so that you can plan your training pathway appropriately.
Can I book Workshop 1 in separate parts rather than as the full course?
Yes. Workshop 1, Part 1 and Workshop 1, Part 2 can be booked separately, allowing you to choose the training that best fits your current learning needs and availability. The complete Workshop 1 provides the full 16-hour foundation, while the separate parts focus on the introductory model and the therapeutic relationship respectively. Please check the current course listing for the available dates, fees and booking options before placing your order.
How much does Schema Therapy training cost?
Course fees are shown on the relevant booking page before you add a place to your basket. At the time of writing, the 16-hour Workshop 1: The Model, Method & Techniques – Full Course is listed at £300. Couples and relationships training is priced separately; the website currently lists the online Part 1 at £250 and the two-day in-person Part 2 at £300. Because schedules and fees can change, please rely on the live product page when booking.
Are the courses online, in person, or both?
Schema Therapy Wales offers a mix of online and in-person training. Many individual Schema Therapy workshops are delivered online in morning sessions, while the Couples and Relationships programme includes online learning and an in-person workshop in Cardiff Bay. Each course listing states the format, UK times, dates and venue where applicable. Please choose the specific event you wish to attend and review those details before checkout.
Do I need previous Schema Therapy experience before booking?
No prior knowledge of Schema Therapy is required for Workshop 1. It is intended for mental health practitioners who have some experience of working with complex clinical presentations and who wish to develop their Schema Therapy skills. Pre-workshop reading is recommended to help you gain the greatest value from the training, but it is not presented as a condition of booking. If you are unsure whether your professional background is suitable, please contact us before enrolling.
Will the training count towards ISST Schema Therapy certification?
Schema Therapy Wales is an ISST-approved certification training programme for Individual Schema Therapy, and its Couples Therapy training is also described as ISST-approved. Relevant workshops may contribute towards certification; however, course attendance alone does not confirm eligibility or accreditation. If you intend to follow the Standard or Advanced route, review the relevant application form and entry criteria before booking, then contact us if you need help planning your pathway.
Is my place on a workshop confirmed as soon as I book?
Places can be selected and purchased through the course booking page. Please note that the full Workshop 1 requires a minimum of six attendees to run. If you are travelling, arranging leave, or need assurance about a particular date, contact us before booking to confirm the latest availability and arrangements. For questions about a specific purchase, payment, transfer, cancellation or refund, please ask us for the applicable booking terms in writing before you complete checkout.
Can I arrange Schema Therapy supervision as well as training?
Yes. Schema Therapy Wales offers Schema Therapy supervision through Mandy Walsh, a qualified Schema Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer. Supervision can support practitioners who are developing their clinical work or progressing through an appropriate certification pathway. To discuss suitability, format, current availability and fees, please contact us directly rather than assuming that supervision is included in a workshop booking.
How do we book Schema Therapy for Couples, what does it cost, and how many sessions might we need?
To enquire about Schema Therapy for Couples, use the contact details or enquiry form on the website and explain briefly what support you are seeking. The published fee is currently £110 for couples therapy. The website states that, on average, couples attend around 12 sessions, usually weekly or fortnightly, although the appropriate pace and length of work will depend on your circumstances. Where one or both partners need more focused support, individual therapy may also be offered alongside couples work. Please contact us to discuss appointment availability and the most appropriate starting point.
